Weather Blog: High temps, humid and chance for rain

FOX24

A cluster of thunderstorms currently over north-central Oklahoma will continue pushing east this morning into portions of northeast Oklahoma before weakening as activity moves into a more stable air-mass.

It`s possible a thunderstorm complex could develop and spur additional thunderstorm development this afternoon during peak heating. Given the overall uncertainty, however, generally, keep overall pops low for today.

Thunderstorm chances will continue to increase on Wednesday and especially Thursday as an upper low slowly moves into the southern Plains. Precipitable water values will increase to around 2 inches by this time and heavy rainfall will be likely in the stronger storms. Flash flood guidance is low for most of the area given the moist soil conditions and flash flooding will likely become a significant concern by Thursday. In addition, many area lakes remain near capacity, including ongoing river flooding.

Widespread 2-to 3-inch rainfall amounts are expected Wednesday through Friday which could cause additional rises. Given the convective nature of precipitation and slow storm motions expected, locally higher rainfall totals appear likely.

Upper low will begin to shift east of the region Friday night into Saturday with the heavy rainfall threat ending. Behind the departing system, a cold front will move through the area on Sunday with cooler conditions on Monday.
