Millions of people visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at our nation’s capital each year.
But Northwest Arkansas residents currently do not have to travel far to pay their respects to the more than 3 million Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Seven wreaths were presented at The Wall That Heals replica, which is temporarily at Crystal Bridges in Bentonville.
Wreath was presented for each branch of the Armed Services, one for the Missing in Action, and one wreath to represent our local heroes, nearly 600 Arkansans.
Thirty-year veteran Tony Coston said it was an honor to lay a wreath at the wall here at home.
“I was very proud to be able to do that after 30 years of service in the army, and my father was a Vietnam veteran, also army — grandfather, two uncles, two nephews — so we come from a proud family of military service on active duty,” Coston said.
Coston said he wants to encourage everyone to take the time this Memorial Day Weekend to tour the wall and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Wall that Heals is available for viewing 24-hours a day through Monday at 1 p.m.
