In Fayetteville, parents who are pursuing higher education in the area are being awarded for their hard work.
45 students were awarded scholarships from the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Northwest Arkansas, and one-third of the annual scholarship budget is paid for by generous donors to give scholarships to deserving single parents in NWA.
The Executive Director of the Single Parent Scholarship Fund, Tyler Clark, said these donors are true advocates for those scholarship recipients.
“When someone endows a scholarship, essentially from a bond with their recipient for as long as they have that scholarship… with donors they sometimes just want to write a check and move forward but we find the uniqueness of our program is our donors,” Clark said. “They really want to stay engaged with our recipients, which is huge not only for our organization but also for the recipients themselves.”
The upcoming spring deadline to apply for a scholarship is June 15.
