Accident Leads to Largest Drug Bust Ever in Crawford County

News

A late evening accident in Van Buren on Wednesday, January 30, resulted in two people being arrested for trafficking a large amount of drugs.

Rebecca Brenes, 43, and Jose Jimenez-Cruz, 27, both from California, were traveling from California to Georgia and took Interstate 40 exit 5 in Van Buren to get fuel.

The couple went left onto Pointer Trail and turned in front of a vehicle causing a collision. Officers responded to the accident and noticed Brenes being overly nervous.

After officers investigated further, they found over 70 pounds of methamphetamine and over 500 Oxycodone 30-milligram pills. It was the largest meth arrest ever in Crawford County.

The 12th / 21st Judicial District Drug Task Force and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
were contacted and assisted with a follow-up investigation.

Brenes and Jimenez-Cruz were both arrested and face charges of trafficking a controlled substance
(methamphetamine-over 200 grams).

They are currently being held at the Crawford County Detention Center with no bond.
