Airlines Get More Complaints, May Raise Prices

New data shows the number of complaints about airline service skyrocketed in April.

The Department of Transportation said it fielded more than 1,900 complaints from consumers. That’s up 69% from March. More than 1,400 complaints were against airlines based in the U.S. The biggest issues were flight problems like cancellations, delays and missed connections.

Air travelers could see higher ticket fares soon. A new report estimates most airlines will increase prices significantly by 2021. Experts say major expansions underway at top domestic airports will result in increased costs to U.S. carriers and essentially hit the wallets of consumers.

The top 25 airports will see an average of 34% increase, with Delta expected to raise the most.
