It’s American Heart Month, and a local group brought some warmth to some tiny patients Monday.
The American Heart Association delivered little, red hats to babies at the Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville and Willow Creek Women’s Hospital in Johnson.
The Little Hats, Big Hearts Campaign raises awareness for congenital heart defects by knitting and crocheting red hats for babies born in February.
Organizers said once certain heart defects are detected, knowing the options available is critical.
“We bring awareness to heart disease across the country, and this is just a small portion of that. But we want to make people aware that heart disease affects the smallest and the tiniest of hearts,” said Serena Munns, excutive director for NWA and River Valley American Heart Association.
There were many volunteers, including the knitting club at Innisfree Senior Living in Rogers, who worked together to make homemade red hats to give to each newborn.
