(KARK) — A local grandmother is recovering after being beaten and robbed in her home earlier this week.
The Pine Bluff Police Department says a 17-year-old boy has been arrested in the case involving an 81-year-old victim. His name is not yet being released but officials say he is expected to be charged as an adult.
Police say the teen was armed with a long gun that he used in the Wednesday attack in a neighborhood near Edgewood Dr. and W. 28th Ave. on the city’s west side.
One of the woman’s injuries has been described as an orbital socket fracture (eye area).
The woman’s family says she has lived in her home for 55 years and was well known for helping out kids.
Police say she may have known her attacker.
“When I heard this happened I cried, I just cried,” a friend of the victim told us on Friday, adding that she’s heartbroken after hearing what happened to her neighbor.
The family shared with us home security footage recorded by a Ring doorbell camera that showed the teen entering the home (see attached video).
The teen is charged with criminal aggravated rape, attempted rape, burglary and aggravated robbery, among other charges.
