Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge is warning Arkansans to be careful when it comes to what she calls a “Secret Santa scam” on social media.
Rutledge said it all centers around a request that you give a fairly inexpensive gift after clicking on a link which can put your personal information at risk.
She points out how skeptical you should be when banking or financial information is requested,
Despite the promise of a big payoff, Rutledge said it’s just not worth it.
“What they’re wanting to do is for you to share or give your personal financial information for a $10 gift and you’re going to get ten $10 gifts in return. Sound to good to be true? It is,” Rutledge said.
Rutledge goes into detail on the “scam” at this link.
Rutledge said the schemers are just looking to steal your money and take advantage of your trust.
The scheme also uses the name ‘Secret Sister’ as well.
