Hundreds of people showed up in Fort Smith on Sunday to learn how to help with the flood clean-up process.
A detailed, hands-on class was put on by Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief Team at Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
Randy Garrett, director of Arkansas Baptist State Convention Disaster Relief, says the number lesson he wanted to impart is safety when entering flooded homes.
“Arkansans, we hang together,” said Garrett. “It’s a joy to be around these type of folks. I’ve heard time after time about people working at their home and someone will show up and start helping them. That’s what we do in Arkansas.”
Garrett says volunteers need to be aware that with all the moisture and humidity, black mold will be a significant problem in flooded homes.
