LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — UPDATE: Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signs House Bill 1419 into law on March 7.

A press release from the governor’s office says the bill creates the Voter Protection Act of 2023 and amends the procedure for the filing of a ballot initiative and referendum petition.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark, (KNWA/KFTA) — A House bill that would make it harder to get a citizen’s initiated constitutional amendment on the ballot has now passed the Arkansas Senate.

Right now, signatures need to be collected from at least 15 counties across the state. House Bill 1419 raises the number of counties to 50.

The bill now heads to Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ desk.
