To date, there have been 63 influenza-related deaths this season in Arkansas, according to the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH).

There has been one pediatric death in Arkansas, and nationally a total of 64 pediatric deaths have occurred, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Seventy percent of the people were unvaccinated or had an unknown vaccine history, according to the latest report.

Since September 20, six Arkansas nursing homes reported flu outbreaks and as of March 12, ADH said 23 schools closed “briefly” because of flu.

ADH states it only gets a fraction of reported flu cases, “it is presumed that there are many more people actually affected than the report shows.”

The latest numbers are from the week ending March 9, 2019.
