A Bella Vista man, who was sentenced to death for killing his six-year-old son, will get a new trial, a ruling made by the Arkansas Supreme Court on Thursday, April 18.
In November 2016, Benton County Circuit Judge Brad Karren sentenced Torres to death.
The state high court reversed Mauricio Torres’ case for a new trial in a 4-3 ruling. The justices ruled that Arkansas authorities couldn’t justify rape for the capital murder conviction because the assault happened in Missouri. The child died one day after the assault at an Arkansas hospital.
