The new federal ban on bump stocks goes into effect Tuesday, March 26. Bump stocks are gun attachments that allow shooters to fire semi-automatic rifles continuously with only one pull of the trigger.
In December 2018, the Justice Department issued a ruling that declared an existing ban on fully automatic weapons also apply to bump stocks. The ruling gave current owners of bump stocks 90 days to either turn in or destroy the attachments.
The 90-day grace period ended Tuesday, March 26.
