Fayetteville kids got music lessons this week from a local celebrity.

Northwest Arkansas singer-songwriter and contestant on The Voice, Barrett Baber, is teaching Vandergriff Elementary students his song “A-R-K-A-N-S-A-S (Get there from Here).” It’s the official song of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism.

Baber says he enjoys seeing children catch the music bug.

“I’m an educator at heart and I love working with young people,” Baber said.

“It is an amazing thing to see really young kids get excited about music, especially about music that you’re kind of responsible for creating,” he said.

Baber will join the students for a school performance of the song next month.

“When I see that excitement in them and I see them get really pumped up about creating music and singing and performing, that’s a really special feeling, because that’s what being an educator is all about,” he said.

Baber is currently competing on this season of The Voice, which you can watch Monday and Tuesday nights on KNWA.
