Basic Economy Flights With Bag Restrictions

News

American Airlines is the latest airline to add a “basic economy” fare class with carry-on restrictions.

Fliers buying American’s basic economy fare will only be able to bring onboard carry-ons small enough to fit under the seat in front of them. That means carry-ons stowed in overhead bins will not be allowed, just like United Airlines’ basic economy fares. American will also not allow changes and fliers will be among the last to board the plane.

The fares will go on sale beginning in February in select markets with an expansion to additional markets expected later this year. Delta Air Lines was the first to introduce a version of basic economy, but it does not restrict carry-ons.
