Air monitors are now in place at Cooper Elementary in Bella Vista.
Fire Station No. 2 also received air monitors Thursday.
The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality will do continuous monitoring in the city because of smoke from the underground fire on Trafalgar Road, better know as the stump dump.
Monitors will record air quality levels on a 24-hour cycle.
The department will collect and analyze that data and release findings to the public.
“Basically what it does is it sucks air down through it and the paticulant matters that come through it, and they run constantly the samples are good for 24 hours and they move over into a separate section, and a new filter goes in there,” said Heins Brawn, compliance branch manager for the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.
ADEQ officials hopes the air monitoring systems will ease the minds of some Bella Vista residents.
