FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) — Judge Barry Moehring and The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) will work together to help the state on snow and ice removal.

On Wednesday, a deal was struck and will run through the end of March 2019. ARDOT will work with Benton County as severe winter storm develops.

“Anytime the state and the county can work together on a project like this – particularly to clear roads during a winter weather event – it will ultimately benefit the citizens,” said Moehring. “Benton County looks forward to seeing the agreement’s positive impact.”

Steve Lawrence, ARDOT District 09 engineer, which encompasses Benton County, says this will enable the state to focus on clearing highly trafficked areas. These routes represent approximately 100 miles in mostly rural Benton County.

“We are pleased to partner with Benton County in our efforts to conduct snow and ice removal from state highways in a timely manner,” said Lawrence. “When conditions warrant, the extra assistance will allow our crews to concentrate on primary routes.”
