WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA) -- A pre-trial hearing for a man accused of capital murder put several prominent Benton county investigators on the stand to testify today.
Detectives, division commanders and even the Benton County Sheriff took the stand today, discussing evidence that one of their own, Miguel Cordova, may have had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a confidential informant.
That informant is expected to give her testimony in the capital murder trial of Cody Wise in September.
The defense poured over 100 pages of text messages, which Cordova admitted to being inappropriate.
In them, Cordova either sends nude pictures or asks the informant to send them to him.
The defense argued Cordova's phone was dumped by the sheriff's office during an internal investigation, but those results were not turned over to them.
The prosecution, saying their opponent is stirring up a narrative where the Benton County Sheriff's Office is hiding information for the upcoming trial.
In the end, the judge ordered Cordova's phone dump to be uncovered and entered into evidence.
Due to the ongoing trial, neither the prosecution nor the defense would speak on camera.
