The Bentonville Public Library turns 10 this week and several festivities taking place throughout the week celebrate the journey of bringing the library to Main Street.
Library Director Hadi Dudley said, “It’s the community that’s helped us build this library. In 2003, the Bentonville Library Foundation formed and raised seven-million-dollars in private funds from local people, organizations, businesses, and then the city matched that with a two-million-dollar contribution.”
The week-long festivities bring back happy memories and remind everyone how far the Bentonville Public Library has come.
“From the old Massey Hotel building where the library formerly was located and children, and teens, and families, and adults came in and selected their favorite books and we literally marched down Main Street and brought those books to the new public library,” says Dudley.
The 10th Anniversary celebrations include several special Storytime guests and also a special incentive hoping to bring readers back they won’t find anywhere else. “We’re unveiling a special edition library card that was custom designed by a local artist just for the 10-year celebration,” says Dudley. The library has about 2,500 of these limited edition library cards by Bentonville Children’s book illustrator Ard Hoyt. Dudley says, “He volunteered to help us out with that project and donated his time for the card and he will be here at the unveiling.”
