Bikes, Blues and Barbecue Parade of Power

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KFTA) — It’s the last day of Bikes, Blues and Barbecue, and a parade took off from the Washington County Fair Grounds traveling all the way down to the main event on Dickson Street.

People always say save the best for last, and that’s how hundreds of bikers spent this Saturday, escorted by police riding in style down College.

The Parade of Power kicked off around 3:00 p.m., led by veterans and Executive Director of Bikes, Blues and Barbecue Tommy Sisemore.

Bikers of all shapes, sizes and sounds were booming down the blocked off highway.

Sisemore said the name of the Parade of Power all comes from the bikes themselves.

“Horsepower! That’s the only meaning behind it is the Parade of Horsepower,” said Sisemore. “It’s the only parade at any motorcycle rally in the United States. The parade has been open to whoever wants to ride in it.”

It wasn’t just bikers who followed this trek.

Many people showcased their horse power, but others showed up to protest another form of power.

Protesters were out in full force using the parade as a platform to get their message across.

“We’re out here protesting Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination and we are protesting violence against women,” Protester Sherry Grandidier said.

“I’m here giving support to all the other women that are here that are on the back of the bikes that have been raped by someone that they thought was they’re friend,” Protester Kat Wilson said.

Sisemore said he welcomes protesters to use this platform.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for them to get out and spread the message to a large audience. I can’t speak for everyone here but I think the majority here would support what they are trying to say,” said Sisemore. “We’re only going to get better if we talk about these things.”

Many like Biker Darryl Wilson said they are happy to be involved in this years rally.

“I’m and avid biker so it’s a great event for me, I travel all over the United States and it’s good to have one at home,” Wilson said.
