FAYETTEVEILLE, Ark. (KFTA) — U.S. Senator John Boozman led a training session today for those interested in collecting oral histories of veterans today.
It’s part of the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project.
More than 100,000 veterans have been interviewed for the project, but only 1,200 are from the Natural State.
One veteran says some vets have the greatest stories, and we need to get them now before they’re lost forever.
“I’ve heard stories where they’ve stood in fox holes til their feet froze,” said Commander Frank Lee. “They had to be amputated because of it. I’ve heard where they had no clothing but they continued to fight. I’ve heard stories where they went without food for days and days, and that’s the reason they’re called the Greatest Generation.”
So far, about 400 Arkansans have been trained to interview veterans for the project.
Boozman said he’s committed to increasing that number.
