Cage-free cat rescue center to open in Fort Smith

A former gas station in the River Valley will become a safe haven for cats.

Jennifer Grayston and Jesse Fenwick are starting Jen’s Kitty Rehab in Fort Smith to help find homes for furry felines.

The couple bought the building at the corner of Dallas and Jenny Lind a year ago. Grayston was inspired to build the cage-free rescue center after visiting another shelter.

“I don’t like the idea of cats living their entire lives in cages. I visited a rescue years ago when this dream planted into me and it was a hot shed and ever since then I wanted to rescue cats and give them a climate controlled home like environment,” Grayston says.

Grayston says her center will focus on rescuing strays and cats that are in danger.

A date hasn’t been set in stone, but the center could be open mid to late summer according to Grayston.
