After three debates, many Americans are still undecided on who they will vote for in the 2016 presidential race. This presidential race is leaving a bad taste in the mouths of many, giving way for third party candidates and write-in candidates. In Arkansas, there are some stipulations.
Washington County Election Coordinator Jennifer Price says there is only one write in candidate on the ballot in our area. If people are wanting to be a write-in candidate, they must have filed just like other candidates. Voters cannot write anyone on the ballot because there is not a spot on the ballot to do so.
” If Mickey Mouse were to get 100,000 votes and no other candidates got close to that, Mickey Mouse still would not win.,” said Price. “It has to be for the candidate that filed to be a write in candidate. That’s the only race that they’ll see a write in candidate.”
Jason Tate is currently the only write-in candidate in the 2016 race that will be on our ballot. Tate is running for U.S. Senate in the race of John Boozman (R) and Connor Eldridge (D).
Price also tells us that Washington County is looking at an 80% voter turnout of over 128,000 registered voters. She said those are the biggest numbers Washington County will ever see on election day.
When it comes to the race for POTUS, there are eight candidates on the ballot:
Darrell L. Castle and Scott N. Bradley – Constitution Party
Donlad J. Trump and Michael R. Pence – Republican Party
Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine – Democratic Party
Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka – Green Party
Lynn S. Kahn and Kathleen Monahan – Independent Party
Gary Johnson and Bill Weld – Libertarian Party
Jim Hedges and Bill Bayes – Independent Party
Evan McMullin and Nathan Johnson – Better for America Party
