CAVE SPRINGS, Ark. (KFTA) — Cave Springs officials say increased traffic partly due people traveling to the airport is putting a strain on the current infrastructure.
Based on data recorded by the city’s police department, more than 90,000 vehicles pass through the downtown area every week.
That’s roughly 10,000 more vehicles per week than three years ago.
Police Chief Rick Crisman said while it’s tough, it’s not unexpected.
“I think 612 has an effect on it to some degree, and then also just the amount of growth that we’re experiencing with the housing boom here in Cave Springs,” Chrisman said.
Crisman also spoke at length about outside factors like the Springdale northern bypass, increased airport traffic and drivers avoiding Interstate 49 pushing traffic through town.
