Centerton Mayor Reinstates Fired Police Officers

News

At a special meeting on Thursday, Mayor Bill Edwards requested the Centerton City Council to reinstate the terminated police officers and place them on administrative leave until an investigation by the Arkansas State Police is completed.

City council voted Thursday evening to reinstate two Centerton Police Officers back to the force.  There were five yes votes and one council member abstained.

Chief Cody Harper and Captain Kristopher Arthur were unexpectedly fired on Tuesday, May 15.

The Arkansas State Police is currently investigating the police department for possible misappropriation of funds and the departments violation of the Arkansas Speed Trap Law.

Both Chief Harper and Captain Arthur were placed on paid administration leave immediately after being reinstated. Both will remain on leave for the remainder of the ASP investigation.

Mayor Edwards explained that the officers were originally fired based on the city attorney’s recommendation, but he changed his mind when he started thinking about it from an employee standpoint.
