As you can imagine, the Kansas City Chiefs success means business is thriving for sports shops in Springfield, Missouri.
This Sunday’s AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium has fans flocking to the stores looking for gear to support their team.
At Rally House, customers are walking through the door with one thing in mind-get to the Chiefs section.
“Business has been booming. It is all chiefs all the time. It’s definitely our top seller,” says Rally House employee, Maggie Dummitt.
“We’ve got a Chiefs jacket, a hat, a garden flag, and I got Chiefs pants,” says Chiefs fan, Cheryl Goodman.
Dave and Cheryl Goodman are Chiefs season ticket holders since 1986. Sunday will be the first time seeing their team in the AFC championship and freezing temperatures won’t get in their way.
“What weather, it does not matter. Amazingly excited, we wouldn’t be in here buying stuff if we weren’t,” says Dave Goodman.
That Chiefs excitement is resulting in pet purchases too.
“My two dogs, Bob and Teddy. Chiefs fans, Raider haters,” says a Rally House customer.
Over at Fastbreak Sports, sales are up by 50% in this week alone.
“Not many bandwagon jumpers, a lot of die hard long time Chiefs fans that are ready for a Super Bowl win. It’s been almost 50 years since the last one so they’re ready to explode,” says Fastbreak Sports owner, Bob Malina.
“This is the greatest thing that’s happened in I can’t remember how long. What, is the first time ever that we’re having a AFC Championship game in Arrowhead? I mean people are going to be going nuts, they’re going nuts already,” says Chiefs fan, Kenny Smulski.
You can catch that game Sunday on your local CBS station at 5:30.
