ROGERS, Ark. (KFTA)–The city of Rogers and the Arkansas Department of Transportation are teaming up to bring drivers a new, likely first of it’s kind system to Northwest Arkansas.

On your phone you will soon be able to see weather updates on roads that you normally wouldn’t.

Right now on the ARDOT app you can only see severe weather updates on major roadways like 71B or Highway 62.

But with the new addition, you will be able to see about 10-15 more roads that are more likely on your commute.

When winter weather hits, the Rogers Police Department will be sending updates every 2 hours to ARDOT,  which will get those updates right to the palm of your hand.

Ben Cline, the public relations manager for the city of Rogers, said “Especially here in the south things tend to grind to a halt if there’s any hint of snow or ice or inclement weather so we hope through this app folks will be able to know how the roads are going to be. They’ll be able to know they can get to their destination safely.”

He says the city hopes to have this new addition to the app finished by the end of the month.

Cline also says the city will benefit from regular, non weather related, traffic updates for these local streets as well.
