It’s Memorial Day and that means many Americans will be eating hamburgers. But just what is America’s favorite burger chain? That tops our consumer minute.
According to a Harris Poll survey, Five Guys is America’s favorite burger spot. This is the second year in a row that it has taken top honors in Harris’s burger brand of the year. Last year, the chain broke In-N-Outs two year winning streak. More than 77,000 people were surveyed to determine the winner among 17 different burger chains.
Monday’s holiday also coincides with national hamburger day. It’s observed each year on May 28th. And no doubt, it’s the memorial day meal of choice for many. Americans consume roughly 50-billion burgers a year. That’s about three hamburgers a week. White Castle is the oldest burger chain in America.
Memorial day is also prime time for grill fires, according to the national fire protection association. In fact, there are over 9,000 home fires each year involving barbecue grills. Safety experts recommend cleaning grill racks and trays before cooking your hamburgers and hotdogs. And it’s especially important to keep young children away from a hot grill.
