Couple Faces New Charges After Child Dies in Accident

BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA) - UPDATE: The woman whose child died in a drunk driving crash Sunday admitted that it was actually her driving and not the child's stepfather as she had initially claimed.

Sabrina Danae Crowe, 31, was arrested in Benton County on suspicion of negligent homicide after she confessed to investigators that she was the driver of the Nissan Titan that crashed into trees after she lost control of it. She originally told investigators that Nathaniel Clark, 29, was driving. She later said she made the false claim because she was scared, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Crowe and Clark were headed northwest on Cowface Road when Clark, swerved into the oncoming lane, overcorrected, lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway and crashing into several trees.

Clark's three stepchildren - a 9 year old, 6 year old and 4 year old - were in the vehicle.

Authorities investigated the crash and learned that the couple and the three children had been on Beaver lake between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Clark and Crowe left the lake intoxicated and knew that they were intoxicated when they drove away with the children on board, according to a probable cause affidavit.

When Clark crashed he caused serious physical injuries to the three children, the affidavit states.

EMS attempted to perform CPR on the 9-year-old child but was unable to save her. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 4-year-old child was air-lifted to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock and has undergone emergency surgery. The 4 year old has severe brain hemorrhage, is continually seizing and in a medically induced coma in hope that brain swelling will reduce.

The 6-year-old was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Rogers to be be treated fro non-critical injuries.

Clark was belligerent and threatening EMS personnel as they attempted to assess injuries.
