Deadly Scooter Accident has Police Warning Drivers

News
Two serious scooter accidents in the last four days has happened on or around the University of Arkansas campus. One victim remains in critical condition, and the other, a U of A student, died Tuesday morning.

Both victims were not wearing helmets at the time of their accidents.

According to University Police, just after midnight Friday morning U of A student Cole Pangburn’s moped lost balance and crashed on Razorback road. He died Tuesday morning.

Monday afternoon Fayetteville police said a scooter was hit by a car after the scooter driver failed to complete a stop. Now the driver is in critical condition. Sgt. Craig Stout said scooter and moped drivers must be aware of their surroundings at all times.

Sgt. Stout also advised vehicle drivers to always keep a close eye out for scooters and motorcycles since they are less visible on the road.

Washington Region Medical Center’s Dr. Burge Green said wearing a helmet decreases the chance of head injury by half.

Arkansas requires drivers under the age of 21 to wear a helmet, and every driver must wear protective eyewear.
