Death Row Inmate to Get New Court Hearing

News

On Wednesday, January 2, a Benton County judge scheduled a July hearing for death row inmate Zachary Holly.

Holly filed a Rule 37 petition and claimed he “received ineffective assistance from his attorney during his case,” according to court records.

The hearing was done by video chat where Holly was at the prison and his attorney was in Little Rock.

In 2015, a jury found Holly guilty of kidnapping, raping and killing 6-year-old Jersey Bridgeman, from Bentonville.

Circuit Judge Brad Karren scheduled the hearing for July 29, 2019.  Holly’s attorney Michael Kaiser stated they’ll have expert witness reports, which will stay sealed, according to court documents.

Holly is currently being held by the Arkansas Department of Corrections at the Varner Supermax facility in Gould, AR.
