Deputies: Escaped Inmates Stole Car with Motorcycles, Still on Run

UPDATE 9:15 P.M.
After more than 30 years of business, the owner of the canoe van says he was surprised when he got the call Monday morning saying the vehicle was missing.  He says he was even more stunned when he saw the only thing missing is the set of keys the men stole.
Owner of Sugar Island Camp & Canoe in Pineville, Missouri, Edward Ables, says, “I didn’t even know the van was missing until they called me because I was out of town in Fort Smith and I got home so late that I didn’t check everything out.”
The van was stolen overnight Sunday by two inmates, Matthew Miller and Keith Davis, who broke out of the  McDonald County Jail.
Police say the two men drove the van to Springdale where it was found behind a restaurant next door to Midway Auto Sales. The dealership where they then stole two motorcycles and a maroon 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser.
After more than 30 years of business, Ables says he’s glad to be back behind the wheel. He says, “It feels pretty good. I mean it’s just an old canoe van, but we use it all the time, so I mean it’s nice that it’s not in a ditch or turned over somewhere.”
He adds, if there’s a next time, thieves will not be able to steal the van so easily. He says, “Instead of just hiding the keys in the vehicles, we will have them inside of our office from now on.”
