Earth Day started early for the city of Fayetteville as residents were invited to participate in the ‘Earth Day Trails Clean Up’.
The festivities started with a proclamation from Mayor Lioneld Jordan then followed with volunteers being sent out to clean litter from different areas of Fayetteville’s trails and streams.
Mayor Jordan said he is excited to see the community working together towards something that helps not only the community but the planet.
“The more that we can recycle, the more that we can get into alternative transportation methods, the more that we can cut the fossil fuels, the better planet, better life that we will have not only for ourselves but for our children and our children’s children,” Mayor Jordan said. “That’s why days like this are so important.”
This year Earth Day is on Monday, April 22.
