Eureka Springs Hosts 29th May Festival Of The Arts

News
Artwork is on display all this month throughout the city of Eureka Springs. It’s for the 29th Annual May Festival of the Arts, taking place now.

Local artists have their works on display in galleries and in some cases right on the street.  Any day you want to go out to Eureka Springs this month for May Festival of the Arts, they’ve got plenty going on, including on week days, and it’s all free to enjoy!

Thursday, May 12th, at the Eureka Springs Historical Museum, from one to three, the festival will host a reception for an En Plein Air special exhibit of paintings by early Eureka Springs artists. En Plein Air art is artwork that was created outside. There will be information on display about the artists as well as their works of art, but there’s more than that.  There are a couple works you can see just by walking through basin spring park. Executive Director of Eureka Spring’s Main Street Jacqueline Wolven says during May, art is all around. Wolven says, “It’s a central piece, this being Basin Spring Park, a lot of the events happen right here, but you wind your way through the streets and you’ll find all kinds of magic places.”

Those central pieces in Basin Spring Park include crocheted trees and a photo viewer.  The photo viewing interactive exhibit in Basin Spring Park lets anyone pick a hanging photo-viewer and see photos of the area taken by an artist. Wolven thinks the festival brings the community out of the Winter months with vibrant colors. She says, “It’s a moment where everybody sort of wakes up to spring and they do it through art and they just feel great about that. We have probably one of the largest populations of artists in Arkansas and it’s their moment and it’s such a great moment to celebrate them and the work that they do.”
