Families Celebrate The Lighting Of The Ozarks

News

A Northwest Arkansas tradition, bringing the first signs of holiday cheer to the Downtown Fayetteville Square.

Each year Fayetteville Parks and Recreation workers decorate the square with over 400,000 lights.

“They’re colorful, and the designs,” one kid said.

It takes crews more than 3,000 hours to string lights from trees and through the flower beds.

“I love that they’re really bright and they’re colorful,” another kid described.

For many the lighting ceremony is a tradition, kicking off their favorite parts of their holiday season.

“It’s a time to spend with your family,” a Fayetteville resident said.

The lights will be up through New Years. There are carriages and pony rides, hot chocolate and holiday music.
