Authorities in Northeast Arkansas said a man died after driving around four barricades during flooding on Friday, February 22.

His vehicle was located by Independence County Deputies early Saturday morning. (February 23).

Arkansas State Police have identified the drowning victim along Highway 37, as 76-year-old Loyd Cockrell.

Cockrell was supposed to make a delivery in Batesville Friday evening, but he never made it, according to KARK.

It appeared the driver went around four barricades in place for flooding on Highway 37, near Elgin, according to Jackson County Sherrif, David Lucas.

Sheriff Lucas said the death was a senseless tragedy and stressed the need for drivers to obey barricades for their own safety.
