Fayetteville Housing Authority Plans to Purchase Motel for Low Income Tenants

The Fayetteville Housing Authority plans to purchase a motel to house those who are low income.

The housing authority announced it accepted a counter offer.

The total estimate for the purchase and renovation of the Hi-Way Motel is $1.5 million.

The board plans to move Hillcrest Apartment tenants to the motel, located at 1140 N College Avenue, in Fayetteville, during renovations for the next 18 months.

After the project is complete, the motel will be converted into studio apartments for homeless — or low income veterans.

“With it being right across the street from the VA, we think this is going to give us an opportunity to serve our community in a unique way,” Fayetteville Housing Authority Interim Executive Director of Angela Belford said.

Cafe Rue Orleans is in the parking lot of the motel, and Belford said the restaurant plans to stay despite the deal.
