A Fayetteville man told police he posed as an electrician to rob a clothing store at the mall and later posed as a detective to tell the store about the theft.

Cody Wilson, 25, was arrested on Thursday and is facing charges of commercial burglary, theft of property and criminal impersonation.

According to a police report, Wilson told an employee at Buckle that he was with Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) and needed to access the store’s control panels due to a power outage the night before.

The police report states that Wilson climbed into the ceiling above the bathrooms and waited until the store associates left.

Wilson then climbed down and took money out of the safe using the safe code that was written inside the office.

Wilson admitted to calling the store and identifying himself as an officer. He wanted to know if the employees had figured out if money was missing from the safe.

Wilson took $1,800 from the safe using a code written inside the store. Wilson was being held at the Washington County Detention Center with no bond set.
