Fayetteville Schools Offers Elementary Kids Local Lunch

News

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KFTA) — Fayetteville Public Schools Child Nutrition Department offered students at Happy Hollow Elementary a seasonal lunch featuring nearly 100 percent local and regional foods on Friday.

It was a way to celebrate National Farm to School Month.

The events raise awareness about which food items are in season in the Natural State and the importance of buying foods grown by farms in the region.

“When we expose them at a young age some of these food values, that they should know their farmers who grow their food and that they should value healthy and colorful foods ’cause it’s good for their body,” said Ally Mrachek, director of Child Nutrition for Fayetteville Public Schools.

Fayetteville public schools began hosting educational lunches in 2011.
