In Fayetteville on Thursday, crowds gathered to celebrate cleaner water for the city after the installation of a new disinfection system.
Hy-DOZ is an ozone disinfection system from BlueInGreen, which was founded by two University of Arkansas graduates.
A test of the system in 2012 found that it used less energy than the existing system.
Fayetteville was inspired by the success of the pilot test and decided to install it here.
“It helps the business community… it helps the environment… it helps the fish that we have in our streams and things, so it’s just a great win-win for everybody today,” Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan said.
Mayor Jordan says you probably won’t taste the difference in the water.
But that doesn’t mean it’s not cleaner.
He also says the system is the first of its kind globally at a wastewater treatment facility.
