Finding Income During the Shutdown

It’s day 26 of the partial government shutdown, and some federal workers are still living without their paychecks.

Various temp agencies in the Northwest Arkansas area said they are more than willing to help these workers find jobs, even if they don’t know how long they’ll need them.

They explained that people can pick up construction or factory jobs that would only require a commitment for a week, or even just a day.
Most government agencies will allow their workers to have a second job as long as it doesn’t present a conflict of interest.
But, some polices may require the job to be approved before applying.
Arkansas State Senator Bart Hester said that while he understands that some families are struggling to live paycheck to paycheck, federal workers should expect that something like the shutdown could happen when they take the job.
“You can look to the past decade or more that this happens when you’re a federal government employee, not saying it’s right, not saying you shouldn’t, but what we do know is that  if it’s happening now and it’s likely going to happen again, if you’re a federal employee you really ‘otta’ do what you can to put some back for the rainy days,” he said.
Some temp agencies that said they would be willing to take in government workers include 1st Employment, Robert Half, TEC Staffing Services and RazorTemps Temporary Staffing.
