Flu-Related Deaths in Arkansas Now Up to 97

The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) reported there have been 97 influenza-related deaths reported in Arkansas this flu season.

Seventy-one percent of the adults were unvaccinated or had an unknown vaccine history, according to ADH’s report.

Last week, 88 flu deaths were reported.

Since September 30, 2018, over 31,500 positive flu tests have been reported to the ADH online database by health care providers.

The average school absenteeism rate last week was 5.6 percent among public schools.

As of April 2, ADH is aware that 27 schools closed briefly due to the flu.

The majority of reports came from Pulaski, Craighead, Poinsett, Sebastian, Crittenden, Faulkner, White, Lonoke, Garland, Independence, and Arkansas.

CDC has reported a total of 77 pediatric deaths nationwide this season.
