A former city council member is accused of stealing money from an assisted living facility where she worked, according to a Waldron police report.

Paige Cupit, 25, worked at Dalton’s Place Assisted Living Center as an office manager.

On January 25, the administrator of the assisted living center, Morena Howell, met with a detective to report money had been taken from trust funds of four different clients.

Howell said on Thursday, January 24, she retrieved a resident’s trust fund statement to make sure it balanced, but that Cupit told her it would not balance. Cupit told Howell she was having “financial problems” and had been taking money from trust funds of four residents, according to the report.

During a police interview, Cupit said she began taking money one month after getting the office manager position in July 2018.  In January, a total amount of $1,260 was taken, and she said she planned to return the money, “when she got paid,” as she had in the past.

Cupit was arrested for four theft of property misdemeanors, according to the police report.

The newly elected City Councilmember resigned from her position on Wednesday, February 6.
