Former Razorback & NFL Linebacker Teaches Kids Importance of Breakfast

FAYETTEVILLE, AR — New Orleans Saint linebacker, and former Hog, Jerry Franklin visited Asbell Elemetary Thursday as a part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program.

Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school wellness program that works to offer convenient and different ways schools can give kids breakfast.

Franklin answered some questions from the students and then helped hand out bags of healthy food. He says he learned the importance of eating a good breakfast while playing high school football. “When I was in high school I remember I used to cramp up every game at halftime. I could never finish a game,” he said. “And I’m saying, ‘What am I doing wrong?’ I’m drinking water and drinking Gatorade and all that stuff, even pickle juice. I tried all that and it didn’t work.”

Franklin also says when he’s in Fayetteville, he does strength and conditioning training at the University of Arkansas.
