The Fort Smith Police Department wants approval to reallocate funds to buy new equipment.

The department has asked the city’s Board of Directors to approve almost $800,000 to add to its budget.

Chief Nathaniel Clark says the money would pay for 9 police SUV’s, 3 motorcycle units, riot gear and stun guns.

He says the money would be pulled from other parts of the city’s budget, and would not require additional funding.
