There was a new person in charge of the Fort Smith Police Department, at least for one day.
Mimi Glidewell has painted several pieces of artwork for officers and she checks the department’s Facebook page every day adding an extra eye on the community.
The department honored Glidewell as Chief of Police for a day on Monday.
“I like to look at it and see what is going on around the town in Fort Smith to see what people are doing and stuff,” Glidewell says.
“We bring in people that have an aspiration to be a police officer and they get to be in my shoes and see what I see on a daily basis,” Fort Smith Chief of Police Nathaniel Clark says.
The “Chief for a Day” community outreach program was initiated by Chief Clark in 2017.
The event recognizes people in Fort Smith who strive to make the community a better place.
