FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Fort Smith Public School District wants families to join in on its school board meeting virtually Monday (April 27).
Superintendent for the district, Doug Brubaker said several things will be discussed at the meeting, but the big talked will be school of innovation plans. This is a plan Brubaker said will encourage flexible and innovative learning opportunities in fields like technology, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing.
Brubaker said the timing of the school of innovation plans come at a good time.
“We’re seeing a real need for more healthcare workers in our area,” Brubaker said. “So that’s going to be a really important part of our strategy to help build the next generation of economic development in our area.”
Brubaker also stressed the importance of families staying informed and up to date with what’s going on in the district, even though students are learning from home.
“In the coming months, we’re going to have conversations about how we’re going to have to adapt our school system for the future based on some of the lessons learned in response to this pandemic,” Brubaker said.
The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. and will be live streamed here.
