Gunshots Fired Near Charter School

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFTA) -- Gunshots were fired in a park near a public charter high school Thursday as students were leaving for fall break.

Allison Montiel, principal of Future School of Fort Smith, said the shots were fired at the park as kids were being let out early at around 1 p.m. for fall break.

Montiel said she heard five to six shots come from the park in the 800 block of North 8th Street, which is about a block and a half away. The park has been identified as Harley Wilson Park.

Aric Mitchell, public information officer for the Fort Smith Police Department, confirmed that the shots were fired.

No injuries were reported and no suspects have been arrested. Police are investigating leads.
