Homeless Springdale Man Raped Woman in Park Restroom, Police Say

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KFTA) -- A Springdale man is accused of raping a woman in a Murphy Park restroom.

Andrew Lee Palmer, 20, was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of rape, kidnapping, third-degree battery, interfering with emergency communications and theft of property, according to a police report.

Palmer is described in the report as homeless.

A Springdale Police Department officer said he spoke with a woman who said she was raped at Murphy Park at around 1:30 a.m. Friday, according to the report.

The woman said she was raped by a black man with red, short, twisted hair and wearing a brown coat.

"[The woman] was stating that she was in the women's restroom when she saw a black male masturbating," the police report states."She explained that he then hit her, knocking her to the ground."

The officer noticed a large knot on the side of the woman's head.

The woman said the suspect took her pants off and dragged her into a stall. She said he then forced her to give him oral sex, according to the report.

The woman told the officer that the suspect stole her phone when she tried to call police.

Police searched the area and located Palmer, who matched the woman's description. Palmer was placed under arrest.
