CENTERTON, Ark. (KFTA) -- Parents in Centerton are concerned after they called 911 for a suspicious vehicle that approached their kids.
Parents can protect their children from strangers while they're home for the summer.
"I regret the three minutes of being inside and this happened. But we got shocked. We're aware, we're alert now so its not going to happen again," said Jennifer Peralta.
According to a police report, Peralta's daughter and her friend were riding bikes when a vehicle approached them. The girls ran away from the people that were in the car.
"It hit too close. You hear about this stuff and you never expect it to happen," Peralta said.
The people in the car did not say anything to the girls but slightly opened the car door. "Then we heard screaming and yelling and so we came out to see what the problem was, and as I came out the girls proceeded to tell us that somebody had tried to take them," Luke Durbin said.
Patrol Lieutenant Anthony Keck says he's not aware of any child abduction attempts in the area. He says the summer is an especially important time to keep an eye on your kids.
"Educating the kids on what to do, unfortunately we live in a very untrusting time. I'm 53 years old and things I experienced growing up going on now you would have never dreamed of 40 years ago," Lt. Keck said.
He says both parents and kids need to be cautious.
"There's no reason for a stranger to be walking up to a child, not even to ask directions," Lt. Keck said.
"People aren't aware. You get relaxed and your home and day-to-day the kids are playing and they come home your good, but there's parents out there that's exactly what they did and they don't have their child," Peralta said.
